: i believe that katerina was being sarcastic during the "play taming of the shrew" to Petruchio : for when Petruchio says on his travels to katerina's farthers house : "good lord how bright and goodly shines the moon" : to that katerina replys The moon!the sun:it is not moon light now. : Petruchio says "i say it is the moon that shines so bright" : katerina says:"i know it is the sun that shines so bright" : Petruchio: now by my mothers son and thats myself, : it shall be moon , or star , or what i list , or ere i journey to your farther's house - : go one and fetch the horses back again - : ever more cross'd and cross'd nothing but cross;d : Hortensio interups and talks to katerina : hort" say as he says , or we shall never go " katerina replys "foward i pray,since we have come so far and be it moon , or be it sun, or whatever you please: and if he calls it a rush candle, henceforth i vow it shall be so for me" : i believe that katerina starts to realize that the only way she gets to do what she wants is to lie and humor him. although i do believe that her last speech does has some truth in it.
